Cheltenham Day Two
- It will take more than -12 overnight to see Cheltenham off. And what a bloodbath for the bookies on day one.
Day two commences with the four mile National Hunt Chase, but the feature race is the Queen Mother Champion Chase, and all eyes will be on Sizing Europe after taking the crown last time round. There is some quality racing to be had with the Neptune and the Champion Bumper, arguably one of the top races on the Cheltenham card on Wedndesday.
Hawkes Point has really caught my eye this season, and will pose a real threat to Back In Focus. Hawkes Point is a full brother to a Cheltenham winner last year (Alfie Sherrin), and jockey Clements is without a doubt one of the better riders in the race. There may be some 14’s available early doors for some shopping around, and taking anything north of 12/1 if available. A couple of the big boys are inviting money on Back In Focus and that should tell us plenty.
In the RSA Chase, there being no Dynaste has opened things up for some value. Based on Newbury last time out, Unioniste is fancied to get the better of Hadrian’s Approach. His jumping is certainly better and I would fancy Nicholls and Walsh to take this one. At 7/2 or thereabouts, back to win this one.
The Coral Cup looks wide open, but I see this one as the perfect trip for Sadlers Risk. Yes, the weights have gone up, but under a big weight at Ascot he produced a good performance and an each way investment could be rewarded here. The two miles five looks perfect here. There is some 25/1 available at present – a huge price.
Hawkes Point @ 12/1 (E/W)
Unioniste @ 7/2 (WIN)
Sadlers Risk @ 25/1 (EW).
Ever the optimist, I am on the trixie for massive returns.
